Ideal if you have friends or family members coming with you, and not riding, and wanting something else to do whilst you are out on the bikes all day, or if you plan on having few days in the area. Llanidloes is a perfect base for any cyclist as the area has something to offer cyclists of all ages and abilities, with some great road and off road rides that offer spectacular views of forests, mountains and lakes.
The Llanidloes town website details several road based routes from short excursions to day-long rides.
There are a number of Mountain Bike Trail centres within an hour’s drive.
Moutainbike Wales offers some great guided Mountain Bike tours, using their local knowledge giving you access to the best trails around.

Rheidol Riding Centre is situated in the middle of the picturesque Rheidol Valley,4 miles from the town of Aberystwyth.
Llanidloes is at the heart of the ancient medieval kingdom of Arwystli; the first town on the River Severn and an ideal spot to take a break; be it for just a couple of days, a week, or a fortnight. But be warned, the place is dangerously addictive. You might never want to leave. There are shops, pubs, cafes. restaurants, walks, historic buildings and much more to see. Expect are warm welcome as the local people are a friendly bunch. There is a small market every Saturday morning on the main street. Check out the town website for further details.
The Mid Wales Arts Centre features a large Gallery, and a Sculpture Park. As well as exhibitions and workshops. Courses are run by professional artists in a supportive and friendly environment. It is approximately 8 miles from Llanidloes, just outside the village of Caersws.
Whilst Llanidloes and the surrounding small towns offer a variety of smaller and generally independent shops, if you are looking to find the major high stores you will need to travel 40 minutes to Aberystwyth or an hour to Shrewsbury for a wider selection.

There are over thirty separate routes around the town which are clearly way-marked and signposted. They link Llanidloes with the smaller surrounding villages of Llangurig, Llandinam and Trefeglwys and range from just a few miles to a good day’s walk. The national trails of Glyndwr’s Way and the Severn Way also pass through Llanidloes; fantastic opportunities to enjoy the countryside.
There is a way marked walk to the Source of the River Severn taking you high up into the Cambrian Mountains onto Plynlimon the highest mountain in Mid Wales, starting only a few miles away from the YORE base.
